Cirque du Soleil's Anniversary Collection 1984-2005 is a 12-disc retrospective of the Canadian troupe's distinctive brand of performance, involving the fantastic feats of acrobatics and athleticism, balance and contortion; the single-ring techno circus; the multicolored lights and costumes; the abstract story lines of fantasy and self-discovery; the music that fuses rock, New Age, and various world influences; and the madcap clowns that prey on their live audiences. The programs included are La Magie Continue (1986); Cirque Reinvente (1989); Nouvelle Experience (1991); Saltimbanco (1994), the 1994 documentary retrospective A Baroque Odyssey; the Amsterdam-set Quidam (1999); Allegria (1999), the live Sydney show; the Chinese-influenced Dralion (2000), in its standard, non-Superbit release; the relatively short IMAX film Journey of Man (2002); Varekai (2002), from Toronto; La Nouba (2003), from Walt Disney World; and Midnight Sun, strikingly staged outdoors at the 2004 Montreal International Jazz Festival. That's a lot of aerial feats, tricks, and tumbling, but the set is not designed to absorb in one sitting. Rather, viewers can sample both the simpler early shows and the stunning later performances that, with their 5.1 sound and widescreen pictures, are perfectly suited to home theaters. Compiling 12 previously released DVDs in space-saving Thinpaks at an economical price, the Anniversary Collection is nearly all the Cirque du Soleil you could ever want, but completists should note that the set does not include the feature film Allegria: An Enchanting Fable, the bonus disc of Varekai, the reality-TV show Fires Within, and the 13-part variety series Solstrom. --David Horiuchi

(Joseph M. Seda, 2009-10-03) Beautifully photographed and edited Cirque Du Soliel performances. A must have set for any home entertainment collection. With an HD TV, it is an overwhelming experience. Different from being there personally, but equally as enthralling.

(R. Roberts, 2009-09-13) This collection is so stunning. From the early more "simple concepts" to the later "world of dreams circus" I am so pleased with the content. If you have kids interested in the arts, or just jumping around, they can learn and grow from watching these dvd's. The costumes are so creative. The stories mysterious and enchanting, thats if you are a deep thinker...otherwise there are giggles and gasps in every performance. Plenty of adventure for every age and intellect.

(Adam S. Gutz, 2009-08-28) I bought this item about 3 months ago from Amazon for 120.00 It is now selling for 130.00. For this price you get 11 DVD plus a bonus DVD. The first DVD is called LA Magie Continue. This DVD I would rate 3 stars not enoungh acts and not long enough. Next DVD is Cirque Reinvente this DVD is absoultly fabulous I give it a 5 star rating. The third DVD is called Nouvelle Experience absolutely 5 stars wonderful DVD. Forth DVD Saltimbanco great fun to watch 5 stars I would rate it. Fifth DVD Allegria absolutely wonderful 5 stars. Six DVD A Baroque Odysssey awful DVD I rate it 2 stars. This DVD number 6 was the worst DVD I have seen in a really long time. Seventh DVD LA Nouba absolutly wonderful 5 stars. Eight DVD called Journey Of Man way to short give rating of 3 stars. The eighth DVD is very different and is only 39 minutes long. Ninth DVD called Quidam is absoultly fabulous 5 stars. Tenth DVD Dralion is very good DVD but not amazing 4.5 stars I would rate it. The Eleven DVD Varekial is way to long and has to many acts that are just time fillers. However some of the acts are wonderful though but not enough of them. It is a time passing DVD Varekal I would rate it 3.5 stars. The bonus DVD is called Midnight Sun. I have not watched it yet but all ready determined that the product deserves 4 stars instead of 5. Hope this review helps you in your buying decision.
