Three Western stars (Martin Short, Steve Martin, Chevy Chase) from Hollywood silent films go to Mexico for what they assume will be a publicity appearance, and find they've actually been summoned to fight a local bandit. John Landis directed this 1986 comedy with self-conscious artifice, and it's hard to get into his self-congratulatory joke. Even the three main stars, brilliant comics all, can't sustain anything funny in it. --Tom Keogh

(J. Garcia, 2009-11-20) Purchased for my father. It is sitting on top of our t.v. just waiting to get into the dvd player. Arrived in perfect condition and in a timely manner.
(Always Team Mom, 2009-09-27) I got exactly what I wanted! It shipped quickly. I absolutely LOVE this silly '80's movie that is no longer in print, so took a chance...and it paid off!! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!
(Randy E. Halford, 2009-08-24) Of all the 80's comedies, "Three Amigos" is one which frequently gets mentioned. After all, what's better than teaming Steve Martin, Chevy Chase & Martin Short in a slapstick/satirical south-of-the-border movie? It's a comedy dream team! The problem with "Amigos" lies not with its stars, but with the screenplay. Considering the great comic personas here, the script seems to have holes where it could have been sharper for its three stars. In short, it's a good comedy that should have been better. John Landis directs with his usual snickering aplomb. Martin seems to fare better than his co-stars; he's in character & looks as if he's enjoying himself. Chase is his typically flippant-irreverent self, wandering between bland idiocy & egocentric sarcasm. Short occasionally looks overwhelmed, but is endearing in his beleagured-but-heroic little guy antics. Thanks to its stars (and some inspired writing from SNL producer Lorne Michaels), "Amigos" has some great comic gems in the rough: 1. The boys performing "My Little Buttercup" in what has to be the toughest cut-throat bar south of the border. 2. In Hollywood: The boys trying to be "inconspicuous" while tip-toeing along a studio sidewalk in their longjohns. 3. Encountering "the singing bush" & "the invisible swordsman". 4. Chase's "endless water canteen" sight gag. 5. The campfire scene, complete with fake sunset & desert creatures joining in song. 6. Martin trying to outsmart a devious mechanical device which has imprisoned him in a jail cell. 7. Short launching into his wild comic dance during celebration. 8. Short's joke about the "mail plane". In spite of a sometimes meandering script which occasionally holds back its stars from being consistently funny, there's a lot to enjoy in "Three Amigos".
(Jorge H. Padilla Leal, 2009-07-05) This movie is a real riot! The characters, dialogues and situations are simply laugh-out-loud funny. I am not sure this movie is getting it's' due credit, but at $5 this is simple a steal. The replay value alone is worth so much more! Get it! P.S. The actors metioned as the main cast in this specific product are not really the principals (those are, of course, Steve Martin, Chevy Chase and Martin Short) although they do appear in the movie. I think Amazon was just trying to differentiate this dvd from the other one that is out of print but that still appears in the catalogue. Still, Amazon should do something about this so as not to confuse people.
(R. K. Fryer, 2009-06-23) I grew up laughing at these guys ("I like dese guys - Dey are funny guys! ...Just kill one of dem.")and I can't believe it took me so long to get the DVD. I can't imagine skipping any parts, but the old VHS sound was so warped I had almost forgotten what the Singing Bush was meant to sound like! Not to mention the bedtime desert serenade. Oh, I LOVE this movie. Wish they'd do another.
