(AvgMom2, 2009-09-20) I bought this 2-pack HK DVD Edition (4-disks) thinking that it'll have special features on how John Woo made this amazing movie, but no such luck. The two extra disks were mostly interviews with the actors (all in Cantonese & Mandarin) with no English subtitles. The movie (with English subtitle), both part 1 and 2, however, was amazing! I've already seen part 1 before, not knowing that it wasn't a complete movie. I was VERY disappointed when the movie ended just before the great naval battle was to begin. The part 2 disk showed how the battle was fought between the good and the evil forces. (Can you guess who won?) Although all the characters were actual figures from the Chinese history book (including the naval battle at the Red Cliff), the romantic overtone of the movie was clearly to get more female audience. Just remember that this is only a movie and not a documentary. The ending was bit weak, but all-in-all, a very satisfying cinematic experience. Well done, John Woo!
(L. Ho, 2009-09-10) 1)Historically inaccurate. The war is for the power, not the woman (not even close.) 2)Lack of contents, too much gimmicks. 3)the director is more for the western style action movies. The essence of Chinese characterictics was barely touched.
