Die Hard 2: Die Harder

Director Renny Harlin (Cutthroat Island) took the reins of this 1990 sequel, which places Bruce Willis's New York City cop character in harm's way again with a gaggle of terrorists. This time, Willis awaits his wife's arrival at Dulles Airport in Washington, D.C., when he gets wind of a plot to blow up the facility. Noisy, overbearing, and forgettable, the film has none of the purity of its predecessor's simple story; and it makes a huge miscalculation in allowing a terrible tragedy to occur rather than stretch out the tension. Where Die Hard set new precedents in action movies, Die Hard 2 is just an anything-goes spectacle. --Tom Keogh

(S. Peek, 2009-09-03) Although I do not think it is as great as the original 'Die Hard', this installment is another show with lots of action and some terrific scenes. It will keep viewers interested throughout. Bruce Willis is back as the hero. Now he is living in Los Angeles and is a lieutenant with the LAPD. This segment has him traveling. He is in Washington, D.C. waiting at the Dulles Airport for his wife Holly (Bonnie Bedelia) to arrive on a flight. Some strange things are happening and McClane's situational awareness is sky high. He picks up on some serious operators roaming around and picks up on a terrorist plot. This show is full of implausible happenings, but it is great fun nevertheless. McClane has some unbelievable moments in his heroics. The bad guys are ex Special Forces and very dangerous opponents. I certainly enjoyed this flick a lot. I think it is worth watching.

(A. G. Dharmadasa, 2009-05-20) I am only going to review the Blu Ray Disc. The picutre quality has a lot to be desired. I know part of the blame is on Renny Harlin heavy colour filters he used, like the orange or reds are to imposing at times .I couldnt help but notice the low quality tranfer which obviosuly came from a poor print. Much better than Die Hard Blu ray but this is not worth buying now. Audio is good and quite loud for all the right reasons. Please 20th Century Fox do not let your customers down with inferior quality products.

(Mpower, 2009-03-09) As soon as the movie would started, and the audio switches to DTS-HD, it would either go totally quiet or make this little clicking noises like there were aliens trying to talk to us. Unfortunately I didn't know there were problems with this disc, so I spent all kinds of time fooling around with my equipment. Buyer Beware! They are having issues with DTS-HD audio on this movie. It did work when I switched to Dolby Surround, but who wants to listen to that if your into uncompressed audio?

(Pumpkin Man, 2009-02-20) This is an awesome sequel that takes place on Christmas Eve a year after stopping the terrorists at the Nakatomi Plaza. John is waiting at Washington Dulles International Airport for his wife. Soon, terrorists gain control of the airport. John must do what he does best and kill the bad guys before anyone gets hurt! I highly recommend DIE HARD 2: DIE HARDER!!!

(A. Dent, 2009-01-17) Too bad it's not possible to keep the Blu-ray and the DVD reviews separate. While I own both formats, I am discussing the Blu version now. Bruce Willis is one of my favorite male 'action' actors. He's all flesh, oozing with blood, sweat, pain - usually a good viewing on a winter Friday night. The Die Hard series are typical BW sweaty, bloody action flicks. The plots don't really matter much: war on drugs, greedy, devilish bandits, vengeful, evil and greedy bandit relatives of greedy bandits... they don't stand a chance when officer McLane is on their case but the officer must first pay in blood - a few pints - and then victory follows, the intrusive reporters are humiliated again, all the baddies die violent deaths and McLane gets to kiss his long distance but loving wife. What's not to like? The Blu version of Die Harder offers a significantly improved picture quality - it's Blu-ray, after all - and Lossless sound. It looks and sounds better. The extras are very much the DVD's: a couple of 1990 featurettes in low-res, 'full screen' formats, some deleted scenes and a commentary sound track. One feature that may not be available on the DVD version gives the viewer the ability to select only the favorite scenes and then play them in sequence - didn't feel tempted to try it. There are some trailers too. Overall, this is the necessary Blu-ray release. Bruce Willis movies deserve to be purchased on VHS tape, then on DVD and then, once again as Blu-ray. I don't know what medium will follow Blu but I'll probably buy the next (3-D?) version again. My rating is three stars. It's a good, not exorbitantly expensive, solid release. The picture and sound are better than the DVD version but, when compared with some of the more spectacular Blu oldies releases (the James Bond collection, 2001), this one does not exactly shine. Three stars means 'good' to me and I do not regret making this purchase.
