(Dave Gee, 2009-08-05) the first time I watched this film was a the Actor Guild in Hollywood back in 1991 and all I could think was LT is the exact opposite of Christ but like Christ he forgives the criminals and sacrifices himself for the good of others.
(Torino Disalkvo, 2009-07-31) loved this movie have the dvd and laserdisc..but i was glad to see on the packaging finally a 5.1 soundtrack...NOTTA!!!...its the 2.0..unbelieveable i clicked on audio choices...you have the choice between 2.0 and the audio commentery...stick with the original from aartisan...very decieful

Schlamb, 2009-07-15) this is a great (gritty) film. there are 2 versions available (NC-17 and R) this new special edition is listed as R... while I'd love to see this film get a nice remastered DVD I have to warn against getting the R rated version unless you prefer your films edited for content. so, great movie but make sure you get the older NC-17 version (unless this new DVD is just listed wrong)
(Lawrence Carpenter, 2009-06-24) A friend alerted me to this film. Since I once worked in the area where the movie was made, I was surprised I didn't catch the crew in action. Harvey Keitel does an extraordinary peformance in this film. This movie is not for children and some may find his character disgusting. I guess that's why he took this role. His character is a bad man, with many flaws but the movie also focuses on redemption. Despite the many bad things he does, there is always hope not only a bad lieutenant, but also, for all of us. Do watch this movie and try to keep an open mind. Harvey Keitel explores the dark side of his character very well.
(One-Line Film Reviews, 2009-06-17) The Bottom Line: No will is going to accuse Abel Ferrera's Bad Lieutenant of being a perfect film, but as a depiction of a man wallowing in the depths and as showcase for Harvey Keitel's soul-baring performance it succeeds enough to make up for its lack of structure (though the baseball motif is handled very well) and occasional flashes of exploitation; it's not an "enjoyable" film per se, but it's a worthy one. 3/4
