Wagon Master Cusomter reviews:

Average Rating: 4.5 Total Reviews: 17

(William Dodd, 2009-10-16) This is a wonderful movie for many different reasons. All the good things of a John Ford Western, but also a perfect representation of a a 1950 kid's view of things---and so much more. I love this movie. And Harry Carey Jr's commentary is worth the price of admission. Don't hestitate if you love westerns, John Ford, or just a mid-century reminder of what we loved about the movies.

(J. Carey, 2009-10-15) I have seen this film several times and had eagerly been waiting for its release in DVD format. I am happy to say that it was worth the wait. This is not a John Wayne epic, there is humor and pathos and a little well done action but the story is a simple one. A couple of young cowboys sign on to help a wagon train of Mormons find their way west. Their encounters along the way are shown in a very real way that makes you understand a little bit about what it might have been like. If there are any real problems with the film it is Ford's love of the Monument Valley scenery. If you were headed west you would probably avoided that area all together but it is visually stimulating anyway. In my opinion this is one of John Ford's best films.

(Michael Everett, 2009-10-12) This is a classic western with western favorites like Ward Bond. Very enjoyable if you like westerns.

(Railroad man, 2009-10-09) I have always liked westerns by John Ford or John Wayne, but lets take it a step further Ben Johnson was a rodeo rider, you can tell it the way he sits a horse in movies like Wagonmaster, Rio Grande,or She wore a Yellow Ribbon. They just don't make movies like those anymore. John Ford loved to shoot in the Mounument Valley mainly because he seached for realizim. Mounument Valley today is like it was a 100+ years ago. The action sequences are very well done. The story line well written, I don't think you could find a better movie than Wagonmaster. Even while Ben Johnson, John Ford, and John Wayne are no longer with us, the effects they had in the motion picture industry were very astounding. It will be a long time before someone will be able to fill the boots of those men who are now just a memory.

(Mr. Nowhere, 2009-10-07) One of the greatest of all John Ford films, and thus one of the greatest of all American films, "Wagon Master" has finally been released in the U. S. in a superb transfer -- important because this is an exquisitely shot film -- and with a very entertaining commentary by Harry Carey, Jr., one of the film's stars, and Peter Bogdanovich, who also presents brief excerpts from his recorded interviews with Ford. Essential. Someday, when it's more widely known, "Wagon Master" will stand right alongside "The Searchers" in the Ford canon.
